Durban, South Africa.
It will be the city to host the 17th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 17). It is the successor of the 16th summit held in Cancun, Mexico, last year.
Despite reaching consensus on a number of topics, several key issues remain outstanding and will have to be addressed in Durban. The convention, in the eyes of many experts, will be decisive on the future of climate talks all together. If the convention fails to bring agreements on important issues, our planet will suffer.
This is where you can help.
The Pissed Off Penguins website offers people from all over the world the opportunity to show that we care enough about our changing climate. We will be present in Durban in a virtual and environmental friendly way. The world leaders will see us visually present on the Map.
Just send your penguin.
Send my what?
Well, yes. Send your penguin!
Let us start by telling you a story, the story of the Pissed Of Penguins.
Contrary to what their name suggests, the Pissed Off Penguins are friendly creatures that will harm no one.
But they are very disappointed and a little bit angry.
The rock of ice they live on is melting away and the only ones that can stop this are humans. The people, so they find, debate a lot about the climate, but do very little. And that must change. The penguins want to see decisions, decisions that will affect the entire planet.
This is why the penguins want to be present in Durban, South Africa at the world climate summit. The penguins are convinced that, in order to save our planet, the summit should have stronger resolutions then the ones evolving from the last summit in Cancun. With their presence, the penguins want to make sure the world leaders will take decisions that will stop global warming.
But because penguins will hardly impress our world leaders, every penguin wants the support of a human. Every penguin that can convince a human to support him will fly to Durban. He will be present on behalf of both of them.
Penguins have no name. In Durban, therefore, they use the name of the person that supports them.
Along with as many humans as possible, the penguins want to ask the world leaders to thoroughly think about their decisions. Many interests are at play, and, frankly, good compromises take time. But the penguins and the world cannot wait much longer. The world leaders have to act now !
Penguins are very peaceful animals. They want to be in Durban in a peaceful way. That’s why the penguins organize parties, parties against global warming.
You can help the Pissed Off Penguins to get as many humans as possible to send their penguin to Durban. The more Penguins are present in Durban, the more chance there is that world leaders will really start acting. So send your penguin, and convince as many friends as possible to do the same.
And perhaps, we can send so many penguins to Durban that the world will notice. It might become a statement so big, that our decision makers no longer can deny it.
